Casual Friday is the second in a series of collaborative exhibitions that begin as a dinner and end as a show (and ultimately a book).
Valerie Green was born in 1981 in Los Angeles, California. She received her BA from the University of California Los Angeles in 2006 and her MFA from California Institute of the Arts in 2011. Green’s photo based practice examines our physical interactions with digital interfaces, while grasping at the space between the indexical and the index finger. Her work has been exhibited at Charlie James Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; ACME Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; Torrance Art Museum, Torrance, CA; HAP Gallery, Portland, OR; ITP Space, Jackson, WY; Gallery Sonja Roesch, Houston, TX; and Control Room, Los Angeles, CA. Forthcoming exhibitions include Second Sight at Torrance Art Museum. Green lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
Greg Ito was born in 1987 in Los Angeles, California. He received his BFA from San Francisco Art Institute. Recent solo and two-person exhibitions include AFTER GRUEN (w/ Alex Ito) at SADE, Los Angeles, CA; Children (w/ Chris Lux) at Mission Comics, San Francisco, CA; Heavy Withdrawals at City Limits, Oakland, CA; and Something Other Than (w/ Jonah Susskind) at The Hills Esthetic Center, Chicago, IL. Ito is a co-founder of SFAQ magazine (2010-14), and Ever Gold Gallery, San Francisco, CA (2009-13). Forthcoming exhibitions include a two-person exhibition at Et al., San Francisco. Ito lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
Nicholas Johnston was born in 1984 in Toronto, Ontario. He received his BA from Queen’s University in 2006, his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2009 and his MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in 2014. He attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2013. Johnston’s video work examines techniques of display and representation, and their roles in narrative and meaning-making. His work has been exhibited at Eastside International, Los Angeles, CA; Public Fiction, Los Angeles, CA; Samsøn, Boston, MA; and Mixed Greens, New York, NY. He was recently in an exhibition at Full Haus in Los Angeles. Johnston lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
Kristen Williams was born in 1989 in Sheffield, England. She received her BA from University of Sheffield in 2011 and her MFA from University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2014. Williams’ object based practice engages with the cultural semiotics of commercial grade materials. She spends her spare time writing flash fiction and short poems. Her work has been exhibited at 417 Gallery, Madison, WI; The Shop, Milwaukee, WI; Martin & Wright, Chicago, IL; Leslie Mann Gallery, Chicago, IL; and Greyhill Gallery, Madison, WI. Williams lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
